Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
No. This is a free service available to any students looking for teachers or teachers looking for students. All listings are free; teachers will never be charged or even asked to provide a donation.
Any person or organization who feels that they can competently instruct others in the techniques and/or repertoire of one or more musical instruments. The teacher need not charge for such services, nor do they require any credentials or formal education to be listed here. It will be the responsibility of a prospective student to determine if a teacher found on our site will be suitable.Teachers are welcome to mention accreditations or years of playing and teaching experience in their listings. These, and the student's own assessment of a teacher should help make the basis for a "good match" in the teacher/student relationship.

Yes, please do. You don't have to tell us about the link, but we appreciate knowing where links are coming from. If your web page is a non-commercial forum (i.e. local group, instrument-specific forum, music club, etc.) we'd like to know about it and where it is. In the future we may list such forums on a related web page.

Our current policy is to list the most recently submitted listings first. The theory behind this is that over time listings become inaccurate. So we list the most recently posted (or edited) information at the top.
Notify us immediately by this form. We hope that no one will abuse the open modification policy of our service, but there is that possibility. We maintain logs of all transactions into our site -- if someone is tampering with your listing, we will take steps to see that it does not happen again.
Our database is not designed to cross-list in such a way. You can post copies of your listing to the other states, but this is not recommended. You should expect that students will search for listings in states neighboring theirs, if they feel that a commute is reasonable. For this reason, one listing per teacher should be enough.
Multiple listings for one teacher may be rejected if the reviewers feel that the geographical spread is too large.
There is no set policy on this yet. We are considering expansions to the database that will make a separate list for performers. For now you may submit a listing to The Teachers List with an indication in the Comments section that you are a performer or performer-for-hire only. When we upgrade, your listing will automatically move to the Perfomers section of our site.
